VASBI
It is my great honour to announce the foundation of the Vascular Access Society of Britain and Ireland (VASBI).
The VASBI is a multi-specialist association of vascular surgeons, transplant surgeons, nephrologists, radiologists, dialysis nurses, sonographers and vascular scientists who have a specialist interest in vascular access in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The VASBI was constituted in Liverpool in 2009 because of the need to have a multidisciplinary organisation committed to the promotion of vascular access for haemodialysis as a subspeciality of vascular and transplant surgery and interventional radiology.
Our mission is to promote scientific and clinical knowledge in vascular access for haemodialysis:

To guide and educate healthcare workers through all aspects of vascular access; medical, surgical and interventional management.
To promote the development of new technology.
To standardise and develop statements and guidelines for best vascular access practice.
To implement CME programs and promote research in all fields of vascular access.
To act as a national forum for discussion between specialists involved in vascular access.
Our first meeting in Manchester was a great success. Our next meeting is planned for September 2011. I look forward to seeing you all.
